Yes, The Fold has a religious roots. But that doesn't mean the Chicago indie act's show July 16 at Mill Creek Church in Modesto was a worship service. The band gave an outstanding performance that appealed to fans of all backgrounds.
The crowd was hyped as soon as The Fold opened its set with the first track on its latest album, “Medicine.” Singer Dan Castaday soothed the audience with his unique voice on the acoustic “Hey Rebekah.” (Which, by the way, was nothing like the Plain White T’s hit “Hey There Delilah.") The Fold closed with the song “Gravity,” left fans bittersweet over the end of the set.
Trademark had opened the show wearing all black; the band's set got the crowd moving. It was followed by the harder Christian screamo sound of A Current Affair. The group's lyrics were meaningful and many in the audience felt like they could relate.
Ever Stays Red was next on the bill with more typical worship music. The band used the background projection screens to their full advantage, displaying lyrics so that fans could sing along.
