Bored on a Sunday afternoon? Try interviewing A Shootout In Paris.

A talk with the local metal act can be an entertaining way to spend a day. Guitarist Jake Miller, drummer Willie Fisher, drummer and vocalist Ernesto can be both laid-back and energetic in conversation.

They’re also quick to laugh, which makes hanging out with the band so much fun.

“We’re in this business because we love music, not for girls or money like other bands are. We’re very diverse sounding, we have good energy, and we’re always trying to get crowd participation. If you want to dance, come out and see us,” Ernesto said.

At times, however, it can be hard to pin them down on the facts. Like, say, when A Shootout in Paris actually formed.

“We played our first show on June 13, 2007. But, the real birthday of A Shootout In Paris is September 28, 2007. That was a good concert,” Jake said, looking up from the calendar on his phone.

The band’s next show is Oct. 4, when it will perform on the second day of Fall Fest.

The event starts at 2 p.m. Oct. 3 and 11 a.m. Oct. 4 at the One-Eighty, 17 W. Lockeford St., Lodi. Tickets are $15, while two-day passes are $20. Both can be purchased at MySpace.com/oneeightymusic.

209Vibe.com will have more on Fall Fest this week.

A Shootout in Paris - which also features AJ Mello on guitar and Taylor McCutcheon on bass - cites As I Lay Dying as among their influences, and said their music is based on their lives.

“As a band we write music based on influences in our life. We write music from our hearts and it isn’t always what everyone else wants to hear,” Willie said. “We try to combine melodies with brutal sounds. A lot of bands are one or the other. I like our band because we combine it,”

After Fall Fest, A Shootout in Paris wants to focus solely on their upcoming EP, “The Moon Is Cheese.” They want to try to get new equipment to make the EP sound as good as possible, and they’re exciting about recording.
