REVIEW: Sick Boy at Pacific

Posted September 14 at 07:01 AM

Sick Boy, the newest on-campus band at University of the Pacific, played its inaugural show Sept. 12 at The Brickyard, the bar in Pacific's University Center. Students were obviously excited and ecstatic about the show. The opening was almost epic; with their high-energy stage presence, powerful riffs and catchy lyrics, Sick Boy was able to establish a refreshing rock presence. It was obvious that Brad Roan (Lead vocals/ guitar), Andrew Landgraf (guitar/ bass), and David Mayman (drums) had prepared immensely to make this set as tight as possible, and boy did they deliver.

They played a great set of originals as well as covers of songs from Against Me, Sublime, and believe it or not, Ludacris. The band pulled these off with a humorous attitude and sturdy stage presence.

Halfway through the set of solid '90s rock inspired tracks, Roan apologized for a cracking voice, but anyone could understand by witnessing the choruses he had been screaming and the all so entertaining dances he had been doing.

The crowd, consisting mostly of college students, seemed to appreciate their rigid-old-school sound, complemented with honest and favorably blunt lyrics. It was quite apparent that Sick Boy stole the crowd and intends to keep them coming back for more in the future. - Samantha Juneman / 209Vibe street team
